CHOIR PARTY 2008
A new tradition which has become firmly established after only 2 occurrences is that of the Choir Post Christmas Party. We are invited to come to Terry and Emily Gaussen’s home and it’s a “bring and share” affair. Their house lends itself so well to a function of this kind, with plenty of room for folk to sit and chat and generally have a good time.
We don’t organise any games or activities, just have handy the music of two or three “Popular Hits” from recent Carol Service and the lovely Grand piano in case we feel like a sing: which it seems we always do!
The food and drink just seem to organise themselves and though we just bring something that we ourselves would like to eat and drink, there’s always loads left over and we have a splendid supper of so many diverse dishes and puds (and things to drink!)
This year we had our Party on 3rd January and that was just such a good time! We were really pleased Fr. Peter could come too and join us in informal mode and see us really enjoying ourselves. How is it that people from age 8 to 88 (literally) get on so well and enjoy the same parties? One member even emulated Cinderella and had such a good time she went home in her slippers! My theory is that it’s the music which transcends the generations and unites us in our aim of offering the best we can in Worship. As well as singing this year there were a couple of toasts: one to John, and one to the Choir and Absent Friends. We are grateful to Madeleine Gaussen (herself a former Choir Member) for practising her camera skills and taking some photographs for us.
Having the extra numbers singing with us at Christmas gives everyone confidence, and the end product feels bigger than the sum of the parts.
Talking of parts, we are DESPERATELY SHORT of men to sing Tenor (or Bass) and we could do with a couple more Altos to share the load. Children aged 8 and over are always welcome to come for a voice test. In fact Children and Adults with any musical leaning who can sing in time and tune and are feeling the call to join the Choir will be welcomed with open arms! The Choir is a really happy group, genuinely open to new members, and we really do appeal to any readers to come and give it a try!
You will be made very welcome – and even better, get an invite to next years PARTY!
John
