INTERCESSIONS

 

The Church

Pray for our Diocese, for Sentamu our Archbishop, Martin our Bishop, Richard our Archdeacon and our local Clergy. Pray for the Primates of the Anglican Communion and our communion of Churches.

 

The World

Please pray for the victims of the earthquakes in China and Haiti and for all those who have lost their homes. Pray for peace and stability in Pakistan and for progress in Iraq and Afghanistan.  We continue to pray for peace between Israel and its neighbours. Remember the victims of all terrorist attacks and their families. Pray for financial stability and for those whose livelihoods and homes are threatened. Remember those who are hungry or oppressed.

 

Our Local Communities

In our Group of Parishes we pray for:

 

Boston Spa: Grove Terrace, Greystone Close, Deepdale Lane, West Avenue;

Clifford & Bramham: St. Luke’s Church, Bramham Road, Old Mill Lane;

Walton and Thorp Arch: Dowkell Lane.

 

The Sick

Pray for all who face great difficulties in their lives at this time and for all carers. Please pray for:

 

Boston Spa: Betty Greenwood, Tony Webster, Jeanne Kerr, Eileen Maclay, Alexandra Royle, Antony Burgess, Irene Shaw, Gill Rastrick, Rita and Don Donaldson.

 

Clifford & Bramham:  Annie Dykes, Julie Hicks, Meg Kitson, Janette Webb, Cicely Clegg;

 

The Departed

Pray for the repose of the souls of Muriel Bleasdale, Michael William Symonds, Malcolm Frederick Kew, Stuart Powell and all who have died recently. We also remember all those from our parishes whose anniversaries are at this time.

The Lower Wharfe Group of Parishes

SERVICES AND EVENTS

* FAMILY FUN DAY: 12.00noon-4.00pm on Sunday 18th July at Bramham Park. All are welcome to come along and have a good time! Tickets are available in all group churches, contacts: Charles Marsh (845360) or Anne Palmer (842850). Help is needed with the tea room, providing scones and flapjacks, and in setting up and serving during the event. If you can help please contact Cathy Dibben (584004).

* HOLIDAY CLUB WEEK AT ST MARY’S:  Can you join us during the week commencing Monday 26th July to help prepare drinks and biscuits mid-morning for 80 to 100 children and a simple lunch for about 60 helpers and their children. It is a great atmosphere and very popular with the children who really enjoy their time with us. We would be very grateful for any help and  you would most welcome to stay for lunch. Please contact Liz Etherington on 0113 286 6487.

* SUNDAY SERVICES AT ST MARY’S on Sundays 25th July and 1st of August will start at 10.00am, half an hour later than normal. Please also note on the 1st of August the Service is a Lay Led Children’s Service to celebrate the Holiday Club.

* AN ENCHANTED EVENING: A Medley of Popular Music by students, amateurs and children (guest appearances by members of Opera North), in the garden of 122 High Street on Sunday 12th September at 5.30pm, bring your own picnic for the interval at 6.30pm. There is a Bar and a Raffle, you can also buy Karen Crafts and Jewellery. This is a fundraising event in aid of the Karen Hilltribes Trust. (It will take place in St Mary's if the weather is wet). * A NEW HISTORY OF ST MARY’S: A new booklet, “St Mary the Virgin Boston Spa – the Church and its History”, was announced at the rededication St Mary’s Organ and is now on sale for £3 at the back of Church. Completely revised, re-written and updated, the booklet has colour photos in the centre.  A free walk around guide and a specification leaflet for the Organ are also available. Money for the history booklet may be handed to Bob Dibben, Peter Wood or a Churchwarden or use one of the envelopes provided.

* FR. STANLEY’S RETIREMENT: Rev. Stanley Menzies is retiring as NSM priest in the Lower Wharfe Group on the 31st July 2010, and is seeking the Archbishop’s permission to officiate. He will continue to support the ministry of the Group, mainly in Bramham.

* CLERGY HOLIDAY:  Rev. Ken Gabbadon will be away on leave until Monday 19th July 2010.
