Organ Restoration. St. Mary’s Church Boston Spa.

The keyboard mechanism is badly worn with many sticking keys.  It requires to be totally dismantled, new pivots and other parts to be made and fitted to restore it to its original playing quality.

It is currently very heavy to play especially when couplers, the mechanical link between the two keyboards, are used.  Similar repairs are needed to the whole mechanical action all of which is worn out.  The wonderful Victorian tracker action is to be restored  unaltered.

This shows the poor condition of the natural leathers on the windchest bellows, and previous repairs.

The bellows leak badly and are on the point of complete failure.  While working, it does not deliver the correct amount of wind to the pipes, which is further exacerbated by many other leaks in the trunking and soundboards where the pipes are fixed.  Natural materials are to be used in its repair.

Pipes along with their racks and soundboards need complete removal to clean and replace , restore and insert into the soundboards to correct the multiple leakages.  Some soundboards are warped requiring replacement.

There are over 1000 pipes in the  organ and the work cannot be done in situ.
