St Mary’s is extremely fortunate to possess a fine 2 manual and pedal organ, built by Forster and Andrews of Hull in 1873. In the 135 years since it was installed time and wear and tear have taken a serious toll, and it is no longer able to produce the quality of sound that it was once capable of. The mechanism too is suffering the ravages of use, age and time! In January 2007 the Parochial Church Council, taking the advice of  the Diocesan Organ Adviser, made the bold decision to launch a campaign to raise the estimated £100,000 needed to fully restore the organ and to re-locate it on a gallery. With an Appeal Committee in place an exciting programme of fund-raising events has been announced.  Please read on...

Educate & Inform Session
Thursday 10th July
St. Mary’s was once again delighted to host an Organ “Educate and Inform” session, this time for fifth year pupils from Boston Spa School. Many aspects of the organ were explored, its design and construction, the science of how it works, even a geography lesson on why the makers, Foster and Andrews, based themselves in Hull (a port with ready sources of quality timber from Scandanavia and Africa). Music, of course was discussed, and the origins and meaning of the terminology used. John says “The session went really well and ticked so many boxes for both them and us”.

Flower Festival

Sponsors’ Corporate Preview Evening-Friday 26th September 2008

This is a Flower Festival with a difference. We are inviting local businesses to sponsor a Flower arrangement and make a donation to the Organ Appeal. In return they will have a dedicated space in St Mary's for their flowers, and beside it a space where they can, if they wish, promote and advertise themselves. Boston Spa has a great many diverse businesses, trades and professions and the local community benefits greatly from their activities. This is an opportunity for them to tell us what they do, and benefit the Organ Appeal at the Same time.

There will be a Corporate Reception, hopefully with a Celebrity Guest on the Friday evening when Sponsors will get the first chance to see the Flowers, and have a drink and nibbles as a thank you from us.

On Saturday the Festival will be open after the 10.00am service until the end of the afternoon, and Lunches and Afternoon Tea will be available together with some high quality stalls on the floral Theme (No White Elephant or second hand goods this time!)

Coaches and visiting parties are warmly encouraged to come - but please let us know in advance for Parking arrangements. On Sunday the Festival will be on view from after Morning Service until 4.00p.m. when it will be dismantled. Light refreshments will be available.

Representatives of the Sponsors will have the opportunity to be on site throughout all this time.

So it's a Flower Festival and a it's a Trade Fair all in one - an opportunity to find out what's really going on in the commercial concerns that surround our Village and look at stunning floral displays at the same time. An event not to be missed either for Sponsors or local residents!

Saturday 28th June.

Bucks Fizz and strawberry scones were the order of the day in Ivor and Wendy Drakes’ beautiful Clifford garden and despite indifferent weather, old friends and new mingled and chatted at this delightfully informal and leisurely event. We can only speculate as to the time and effort that went into the preparations, and it is rumoured that Ivor and Wendy spent many happy hours researching Bucks Fizz! However that may be, more than £650 was raised for the Organ Appeal, a magnificent effort.
