ORGAN APPEAL – JUNE UPDATE

Sunday 3rd June saw the Sponsored Walk – and it was a lovely day for it. We would have liked more walkers – but there is so much going on at the moment, we fully understood why !

Nonetheless, 24 walkers and one dog all started and finished the course, under the careful supervision of marshals, equipped with radio sets so that the position of every walker was known almost every moment. Grateful thanks to Ivor and his Team for this superb support.

The Soup and sandwich Lunch back at St Mary’s was excellent and very welcome, and attracted passers by as well as hungry walkers! Is this an idea for future Fundraising ??

The walk raised over £700 which means we have achieved 25% of the cash we need to pay for all the work – this is really good, and we should give ourselves a pat on the back.

We don’t have too much time to rest on our laurels however, and the Scalectrix Grand Prix Evening is fast approaching – Saturday 7thJuly. You MUST have tickets for this event, available from the Office or from Margaret Coleman. Full information is shown elsewhere on the web site.

After that, we have arranged 3 days for School visits as part of our “Educate and Inform” Programme. All three Primary Schools have accepted the invitation to bring children to have an educational visit when they will be shown the inside of the Organ, with an explanation of how it works, what it’s for, and why it needs repair. They will also have chance to write stories, do word searches and quizzes on related topics as well as have a drink and a biscuit.

The Committee see this as a really important aspect of the Appeal, to involve and inform the future custodians of our Organ and heritage, and who knows, this could be the spark that lights the fire of a budding Organist’s career ! We hope so anyway !

If you want to get involved in any Fundraising activities or have any bright ideas – or simply just want to give us your money, we’d love to hear from you ! As always we add our thanks for all the encouragement and support and the practical help you have already given us.
