Update – July 2007.

This has been our most active month since the Appeal started !

Following the Boundary Walk, we had the Scalextric Evening, when almost 100 people came to enjoy the thrills and spills of Grand Prix Racing – with Scalextric Cars ! With straw bales, old tyres, chequered flags and of course Champagne as first prize, the atmosphere was truly that of Brands Hatch or Silverstone (where apparently something similar was going on !) There was a lovely supper, A quiz as well as smaller cars for the children – and everyone had a really happy time, and the Organ Fund has benefited by over £900.

Roger Beatty, who died last month,  had been one of the promoters of the idea, and he was very much in our thoughts – especially in the race dedicated to him, with his large bottle of red wine as a special prize. We are very grateful too to Dr Murray and Mrs Hazel Somerville, Rogers’s brother-in law and his wife, for their generous donation to the Fund in Memory of Roger.

As if the weekend had not been busy enough, we started the next week with visits from School Children under our Educate and Inform programme. On Monday 9th July 140 Children from Lady Elizabeth Hastings School walked down from Thorp Arch in year groups, and had an interactive talk about the Organ, and then a session with work books about the Church and the Organ, before walking back after a drink and a biscuit.

On Tuesday 10 we did it all again for 190 children, this time from Primrose Lane School. Look on the Organ Fund notice Board in Church for the Poem about the mouse that lives in the Organ, written for us by a little girl who came
on Tuesday. Click here to read it – it sums the whole purpose of the Appeal up perfectly in 8 lines – saying basically “please help us to restore the Organ and keep the mouse in his house” !

We’ve been very encouraged by our friends at St Luke’s Clifford and All Saints Bramham where both Organists have arranged Concerts in their Churches in aid of the Appeal. This is a really generous gesture and we are very appreciative – see timetable for details.

Meanwhile Pete Etherington is forging ahead with the newly titled “Piano and Music Fayre” which takes place on 13th October. Lots of Children from Primrose Lane School have already asked to have a sponsored slot, so we are looking forward to a lovely day of Live Music coupled with Coffee, Lunch and Afternoon Tea across the Day.

The Café Chantant planned for November has been postponed due to a temporary shortage of Choir resources, and also because the number of other events now coming up !

Thank you to all who have supported the Appeal thus far. We have raised about 30% of the cash we need which is not bad for 6 months Fundraising. Please do keep generating ideas and CASH so that we can start the work and enjoy the Organ in tip-top condition once again.
