Since 2001 St. Mary’s has had an all age worship celebration on the first Sunday of each month. This is usually a service of the Word based on the scripture readings of the Sunday. On special feastdays a short service of Holy Communion is also included. These acts of worship are generally of a high standard and seek to address all age groups. They are attracting many younger families. This monthly service is planned by a lay worship group and any member of the Congregation can join the planning group; no prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to try doing new things and take some risks !
The Group meets at least once a month to pray and prepare a service for the following month. A special service sheet is produced for each service. Many skills are required in constructing these acts of worship. If you feel you can assist with any of the following, namely: liturgy, music, drama, materials preparation or typing please contact Christine Blunt (the Lay Worship chair) or Charlotte Watson (Music leader) through the Group Administrator (Tel: 01937 844402).
Other lay led acts of worship are produced during the year, particularly youth and healing services. Training for the leading of lay worship is available in both the Parish and Deanery. All lay worship leaders are required to undergo a CRB check and must conform to the requirements of child protection legislation and parish policies.
