June 2009 Update

Do you remember the

FLOWER  FESTIVAL?

It was at this time last year we were working flat out to make it such a memorable event. So you probably remember the Bags and Tea Towels? Well you’re probably not surprised that there are a few left over. Thanks to two anonymous donations, the entire cost of the Towels and Bags has been covered, and we are into profit!  This means that we can now make the Bags and Tea towels available for just a donation, which will go into CHURCH  FUNDS, not the Organ Appeal.  Please let us know if you’d like a couple or three, make a donation and we can see to that for you!

Meanwhile, work continues to make sure the restoration starts and finishes on time. The PCC have appointed Houseman and Falshaw Ltd of Copgrove to build the Gallery that will be the Organ’s new home. They’ve clearly got a lot of experience and skill and we’re pleased they will be working for us. You can read all about them here: http://www.housemanandfalshaw.co.uk/aboutUs.html

Before they come there’s a lot of tidying up to do ~ (have you looked behind the Organ lately?) so don’t be surprised if things start to appear in new and different places!

As to the Organ – well it’s getting stiffer and stiffer to play it by the week – and visiting players tell me how hard it is to make the action work when both keyboards are joined together. It’s a tribute to Forster and Andrews (and Geoffrey Coffin) that it’s working at all.

I came across a few F & A Organs whilst on Holiday in Norfolk recently, including this one at Wells next the Sea, 5 years younger than ours, but un-restored. I was delighted to see the pipes still in the same patterned style as ours once were, and took this picture to show you!

We had a very simple pine case like this before the 1958 restoration, when our lovely pipes were painted over. I wonder if we’d do that today? I think not!

Thanks for your ongoing support and encouragement – it’s all about to start happening!
