May 2008 Update

In some respects May has been a quieter month than March – the Auction Month and April – The Boston Spa School Concert month but there’s still a lot going on!

The Concert was remarkable for both the quality and competence of the performers, and for the variety of their Programmes. Baroque to Blues is no exaggeration! As Tony Evans said in his notes “This piece really shows what the guitar can do, I have to push the guitar and amp to its limit to ensure I get a blues/grundge sound from it” The amazing thing is – I truly enjoyed every note they played! The good news is that Mr Taylor will most probably bring next year’s A Level Students back to play for us in the same way.

Strawberry Sparkle Tea

Saturday 28th June, 26 Lairum Rise, Clifford : 2 – 5  pm

Please buy Tickets in advance – they will be on sale after the Committee Meeting on 13th May from all Committee members at £5.00. Accompanied Children under 12 – free, and there’s a Lucky ticket number too.

The Committee Meeting on 13th May (7.30 p.m.) is an OPEN  Meeting to get the Flower Festival (27/28 September) under way. We are still looking for someone to take the lead role on the PLANT  STALL .. Volunteer(s) very welcome. It’s a cue for all Gardeners to take cuttings, plant and extra row or whatever you do to make sure we have a Stall to equal the Flowers on the day.

We have no events as such planned in July – but don’t forget that you can always Sponsor an Organ Pipe as a Gift for someone who is hard to buy a present for – or just because you WANT TO!

Please  take this idea seriously – it’s potentially a terrific source of income for the Appeal – especially when it’s Gift Aided – and good news there too, we can keep the higher Tax Reclaim for a bit longer, so do it now!

As I write (7th May) it looks like the Plans are bouncing as fast as they can from Sebastian, our Architect to the New PCC who have to approve them and then off to York to the Diocesan Advisory Committee who give us the permission to proceed. We can then get on writing to the various Trusts and Grant Making Bodies to ask them for their help.

Before you know it, it will be August and the overnight Bible Marathon (2/3rd), and then it will be the Flower Festival!

Meanwhile we’re admitting to a sum over £56,000 in the Bank – but it could be a whisker more than that. We’ll find out at the Committee meeting on 13th May.

Where DID this year go!
