February 2009 Update
Fund Raising activities are on hold for the moment, thanks largely to your generosity and the huge boost from the Trust Fund donors and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
There’s plenty going on all the same – there’s been a frenzied exchange of emails
between all involved in planning and scheduling the reconstruction in practical terms.
Now that the “Project” has become a reality, we have to arrange a schedule of work
which permits activities in St Mary’s to continue whilst the organ is removed, then
the Gallery is built, allowing the Organ to be re-
Meanwhile all the detailed Specifications for the Gallery are being agreed so that we can send the job out to tender. This really needs someone who understands what it’s all about, and we are truly fortunate to have Roland Gooch on the Team. His years of Professional experience in this field are an absolute boon, and he is working very hard, being the interface between the “Client”–us–and the Architect, the Organ Builder and the Companies who will quote for the Gallery construction.
The dear old Organ is performing new tricks every week and keeping me on my toes when things go wrong. I hope you don’t notice, but there are moments when it gets the better of me. It will truly be a joy when the time comes for Ruth to hear the first tune on the newly restored Organ. It won’t be a moment too soon!
The rest of the Committee are not sitting idly by either – we are catering for the MU Dinner once again, and are very much looking forward to doing that on March 4th. Last year was such a happy occasion we were thrilled to be asked again!
On the subject of food, I quote from Mike Bowers’ article in the February Magazine:
CELEBRATION DINNER – 25th SEPTEMBER 2009
A year ago, I wrote an article for the Magazine inviting members of St Mary's Church and the local community to attend Boston Spa Village Hall to raise money for the Organ Appeal through the 'Auction of Promises'. A lot has happened since then and thanks to the leadership of Liz and John, the 'Appeal Team' have realised their large financial target ... a great achievement in less than two years' work!
To celebrate success, we are now organising a 'Celebration Dinner' to be held on Friday 25th September 2009 at Boston Spa Village Hall, so make a note in your diary, please. This is for all who have supported the Appeal over the past two years to come together to celebrate what has been achieved. It is planned to have an evening meal, drinks and musical entertainment using the full facilities of the Village Hall and Jubilee Room.
Like past events organised by the Committee, this will be a good 'value for money' event. Tickets will go on sale in early summer ... but for now, please make a note of the date and we will see you there!
We want this to be a real Celebration, and an event where anyone who has been involved
in any way – as a Sponsor, a Donor, as any form of “well wisher” to the Project whether
from Church, Local Business or the wider community will feel welcome to come and
eat together and have a jolly good time to celebrate the success of the Project.
There will be music for those who like to dance and chance for a chat for others
