October 2009 Update

As you can see, a lot has happened in a fairly short time! The steelwork is up and the cladding process is well under-way. The staircase from Ground level to Gallery level is due to arrive w/c 26th October.

On the right is a sneak preview of an Organists view of the Altar from the new playing position. It’s wonderful – no excuse for missed cues now! The other construction picture below shows the door on the left where the stairs will rise, the door on the right to form storage, and the little hatch in the middle where the touch-screen computer display will be housed. The work on the display is well underway and a trial run at the Committee meeting on 20th October was most successful. Grateful thanks to Pete Etherington for holding the brief on this aspect. Similar huge thanks to Roland Gooch who is

seeing through all the technical aspects of the construction work – not an easy job, and it is demanding much time and technical skill. We are very lucky to have Roland on the Team.

Meanwhile the Dust Busters turn out every Friday around 4pm to vacuum up the dust, and clean and polish floors, pews, window-sills etc. This is an impressive team without whom the church would be unusable each weekend.

14 miles away in York, the Staff at Principal Pipe Organs are beavering away on the moving and sounding parts of our dear old organ. Compare the state of these pipes in “before” and “after” shots! (Yes, they are the same pipes!)

It will be January 2010 at the earliest before the organ begins to re-appear, so we’re not definitely sure just when the plain glass front of the gallery will be fixed in position on completion. There’s still a lot to look forward to!
