The Organ Appeal Committee send their Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year
with this December up-
As I’ve said elsewhere, the progress on the Gallery speaks for itself, and whilst the finer points remain to be tidied up, it’s more or less finished, apart from the Front glass panels which can’t be put on until after the Organ is back home.
I’ve also referred to “work going on in the background” – and so here’s an extract from an Email from Pete Etherington which explains in some detail exactly what is going on, though there’s little to see:
While all the visible work is going on in church, there are a couple of ‘behind the scenes’ items also in progress.
Firstly, we need to apply for the next portion of the award from the Heritage Lottery money. The total award was £50,000; so far we have received £25,000. We have to complete a progress report by the end of 2009, showing how we have spent the first slice of money in order to claim the next payment, which should be a further £20,000. To do this we need to produce paid invoices, a description of the work to date and other requirements. This needs to be done by the end of 2009. We will only receive the final £5,000 when the work is completed.
Secondly, we are producing a ‘touch screen’ presentation of the project, and associated organ/church items, which will be part of the learning display in church. This is also associated with the Lottery Award. To do this a vast number of photos have been taken, of both the building work in church, and the ongoing restoration work at the workshops of Principal Pipe Organs in York. Selected photos will become part of the church display, and also be sent on a CD to the Heritage Lottery as part of the progress report.
Cheers, Pete.
Quite rightly, the Lottery need very detailed information from us – they have made us a large award, and we must demonstrate that we are good stewards. The Visual display will be housed in the Gallery Wall between the two doors – no, the hole is not a hatch for Coffee service! It will be discretely covered during Services, but available to all for self access at other times.
The Organ should start to return in January, but it will be in very small stages,
as it takes MUCH longer to re-
