Update March 2010

This could be one of the last updates on the Organ Work!  March has seen  the Principal Pipe Organs Team working flat out to get the dear old organ back on song for Easter Day. The last of the front pipes was manoeuvred delicately into position by Bob the (Organ) Builder on 22nd March – a brilliant Birthday present for John. After a temporary trellis, sham pipes were returned to the case on the south side return and it looks SO GOOD!

Most work is of course behind the scenes, and new, efficient action has been provided for the Pedal Organ which has meant a lot of complex wiring jobs for Geoffrey and joy of joys, the 16’ trombone pipes are now installed on their wind chest and they look stunning.

They will SOUND magnificent–have a peep through the slatted screen in the south aisle and you will see them.

Meanwhile work continues on the gallery and the doors – the next few days should see all the snagging sorted.

Pete Etherington brought the prototype Computerised Information Display to the Choir Coffee Morning and it was tested live by many many people, old and young, who enjoyed working through the various screens, and all of whom found it easy to navigate. This is excellent progress, and now the Organ is nearly finished, we can complete the Photographic record needed for the display and for the revised Church History which is being proof-read right now, a task kindly undertaken by David Middleton.

So if it seems that the work has slowed down again, nothing could be further from reality – it’s ALL GO on ALL FRONTS and we should have a very musical Easter next week.

Well done everyone!
